Stepping up with 1,000s of boxes for poor families

Evesham Editorial 15th Dec, 2018   0

AN EVESHAM charity has handed over thousands of gift-filled shoeboxes for poor and vulnerable children and families this Christmas.

Paul and Alison Jeanes from Lower Moor near Pershore travelled to eastern Romania to help give out thousands of gift filled shoeboxes donated by kind hearted people from all over the UK and exported from the Teams4u warehouse in Evesham.

The Teams4u warehouse on Davies Road has for the past six weeks been a hive of activity collecting, checking and preparing boxes for export.

To date over 27,000 shoeboxes have been collected in Evesham with the charity Teams4u collecting nearly 51,000 nationally.

Paul and Alison travelled out to the Braila and Tulcea on the Danube Delta on the eastern coast of Romania where most of the children and families had never received shoeboxes before.

They carried with them a special shoebox from a Romanian girl, Ana-Maria Stoiof, here in the UK, who when she was aged five in Romania received a shoebox of her own.

She wanted to send a box back to a girl her age in Romania as she knew what it meant to receive such a gift. Whilst they were there they helped distribute over 4,000 shoeboxes.

When they returned to the UK last weekend another team from the Evesham warehouse headed out to Western Romania to help deliver more shoeboxes.

Some of the boxes will go to the town of Sulina on the delta, the only way there is by boat as there is no road. The population there includes 300 children and a disabled children’s home which will also receive their shoeboxes.
