Starting gun fired on new Vale multi sport club

A UNIQUE social media club for athletes in and around the Vale of Evesham has gone from strength to strength after kicking off at the start of the year.

Vale MultiSport is a friendly, open, informal group on social media where of athletes in and around the Vale of Evesham can interact and share events.

The group was the brainchild of Julian Horsley who used his passion for the power of social media to fire the starting gun on the group.

His idea was to create a friendly, open informal group for athletes in and around the Vale of Evesham and the group now boasts more than 200 members.

“Back in May 2015, I decided to stop being a couch potato and did my first parkrun. Parkrun has changed my life for the better, I loved the community spirit, it’s supportive nature and how it was open to all,” he said.

“For me parkrun was the start of a journey, which then lead into road cycling, then triathlon and duathlon – whilst also realising how poor a swimmer I am.

“During that journey I have come to meet so many people and make so many friends, who like me have a passion to get out there, be active and be the best they can be!

“As a Worcester boy, living in Inkberrow, whose family historically comes from the Vale of Evesham. I find myself increasingly attached to the area, and am keen to do what I can to promote health and fitness around the local communities,” he added.

One of the first events highlighted by the group was the CFC Meon Vale Spring Classic cycle event in March which saw more than 10 members tackle 38 miles of the Cotswolds to raise cash for the local charity.

“It was so much fun, meeting lots of new people with the same interests. The group really hit it off and will be looking forward to monthly group cycle rides and various running events,” he said.

The Vale MultiSport Facebook page and group hopes to be a hub of information and a place for like-minded athletes to interact.

All are welcome to join irrespective of existing affiliation or multi-sport disciplines.
