Staff help proud mum to big day

Evesham Editorial 7th Jan, 2018   0

A PROUD Evesham mother of the bride was on hand for her daughter’s big day, thanks to caring staff at a county hospice.

Glynis Benton is currently receiving palliative care in her fight against cancer at St Richard’s Hospice’s in-patient unit in Worcester.

Her illness put her place at the wedding in jeopardy but the caring 68-year-old was able to surprise her daughter Jacqueline by arriving in style at the ceremony in Kidderminster.

Staff at St Richard’s ensured Glynis was able to be at her daughter’s special day and even drove her to the venue in a hospice minibus which was decked out in ribbons to mark the occasion.

A friendly face accompanied Mrs Benton from the hospice on Wildwood Drive to the Hogarths Stone Manor hotel near Kidderminster as best friend Lesley Gisbourne joined her for the journey.

And the kind-hearted gesture proved to be the finishing touch to Jaqueline’s perfect day as she was left unaware her mother would be able to attend until just before the ceremony.

A delighted Mrs Benton thanked staff for going the extra mile to ensure she was on hand to witness her daughter tying the knot.

“The hospice team has been wonderful – I just can’t put it into words,” she said.

St Richard’s Hospice provides free specialist palliative and end of life care for patients living with life-limiting illnesses and supports their loved ones. Each year the hospice team supports more than 3,000 patients, family members and bereaved people in Worcestershire.

The hospice strives to provide the best medical, practical, emotional and social support they can to help people live life to the fullest, as independently as they can, for as long as they can.

St Richard’s is an independent charity and is grateful for all donations to help it continue its work.
