Spotlight on Bell Tower as part of Enlighten plans

Evesham Editorial 3rd Dec, 2018   0

A CREATIVE trail will shine a light on Evesham’s Bell Tower in the next phase of a project to illuminate the town’s historic venues.

The event, which is part of Enlighten, will run from 5.30pm to 7.30pm on Saturday, December 15, when visitors will have the chance to see a wide range of different lights and colours.

There will be lots to do for the whole family such as lantern making, a drop-in projection workshop and shadow puppetry, as well as refreshments.

The switch-on comes after a successful Lights Up! event at the War Memorial in Abbey Park on November 11 when crowds brought a candle or torch and a short service was held to commemorate the centenary of the end of the First World War.

Funding from Wychavon District Council planning contributions, Evesham Town Council, the Bell Tower Appeal and Worcestershire County Council has made the project possible.

Jenny Davis, arts development officer at Wychavon District Council, said: “We were bowled away by the number of people that came down to support the launch of the War Memorial lights and moved by the service and performances by Broadway School, Deborah Rose and Martin Riley.

“The lights look amazing and make a huge difference to the park.

“We are equally excited to launch the Bell Tower lights and to share our vision with the community. The activities we have planned are also fun so we’d urge visitors to get your creative hat on!”

The next phase includes lighting the arch of the Abbey remains, as well as lighting and projecting on to All Saints and St Lawrence’s churches.
