‘Speed up station improvements’ - MP

Evesham Editorial 17th Jul, 2019   0

PERSHORE’S MP Harriett Baldwin has called for quicker action from Network Rail as plans are developed to improve facilities and parking capacity at town’s train station.

The MP has written to Network Rail bosses calling on them to look at ways to speed up projects which could improve car parking at the station.

Her demands are the latest chapter in the long-running saga over improvements to Pershore railway station’s and its car park which has seen Mrs Baldwin continue to demand action from rail chiefs to take the project forward.

Fed-up commuters have been calling for a bigger car park at the town’s station for more than a decade and Mrs Baldwin has been leading the campaign to end the impasse over car park which has been at the centre of war of words between Network Rail and landowners Carlton Smith Ltd since 2002.

The Government committed an extra £20 million last Monday (July 8) to a fund to improve access for disabled and less able people using public transport.

Mrs Baldwin met with Network Rail managing director Mark Langman last year and highlighted the poor provision and signage for disabled rail users at the town’s station.

“I’ve worked closely with Wychavon District Council, Great Western Railways and Network Rail to try and find a way to improve both the station car parking and facilities and Pershore,” she said.

“Although I have had some constructive meetings, this work does seem to have stalled and I have written to Network Rail to ask them to accelerate their efforts on this project.

“On a day when the Government repeats its commitment to improving facilities for all rail users, I felt it was important to remind Network Rail that the station and its car parking capacity remains a key priority of mine.” she added.
