'Spare a thought for those working over the festive period' - Christmas message from Evesham mayor

Evesham Editorial 25th Dec, 2025   0

Where will you be celebrating the festive season?

Maybe at home, or visiting relatives and friends. Wherever you are, please have a wonderful time and spare a thought for those who are not so fortunate.

Some people live on our streets, and over Christmas, I will be out meeting them with refreshments and something to eat, as everyone should be able to mark this festive season.

During my time in office, I have had the privilege of meeting refugees who are thankful to have escaped from tyranny and are now enjoying the start of a new life here in Evesham.

Their upheaval has been made easier to bear thanks to the tireless work of Evesham Welcomes Refugees volunteers.

With the Mayoress Marion Griffiths, I have been visiting our community hospital, distributing presents on behalf of Evesham Town Council to those who will spend their Christmas in the care of our brilliant NHS staff, who will be working over the festive period.

So please spare a thought for our emergency services and hospitality workers who will be busy over the festive period.

I ask you to take a moment to raise a glass and thank those who are working, so you can celebrate in comfort.

Wishing you all a very happy Christmas and a prosperous, respectful New Year.

John Clatworthy

Mayor of Evesham
