PERSHORE College was the setting for a wedding of a different kind when two football mascots tied the knot in front of invited guests from across the Vale.
Revd Andrew Spurr conducted the ceremony which saw Growers United FC mascots Horti and Agri get wed.
Representatives from local organisations and businesses were in attendance as well as fellow mascots Prunella
Plum and Gus the Asparagus Man.
Growers United FC is a team made up of local growers and fresh produce businesses based in and around the
Vale of Evesham. The fun wedding was the idea of Bal Padda, who is part of the club.
Horti has been the club’s mascot but team bosses felt it was important agriculture was also recognised as important to the Vale of Evesham – hence ‘Agri’ was born.
The wedding also launched another set of matches – promoting the international football tournament which is being held by Growers United on next weekend (June 28 and 29) at Evesham United’s Jubilee Stadium ( see below).
Tamsin Jones, acting principal at Pershore College, said: “We were absolutely delighted to welcome everyone to Pershore College for this very special occasion and big congratulations to the new Mr and Mrs Culture.
“Although the wedding is fun, it’s a real symbol of the partnership we at Pershore College have developed with the local growers in the Vale of Evesham and it was fantastic to see so many of them here today.”
