Something to Think About

Evesham Editorial 4th Mar, 2018   0

I AM WRITING this article on Monday with the possibility of some severe wintry weather ahead.

By the time that you read this, you will know if the forecasters have been correct and the anticipated snow will have arrived on our doorsteps.

Some years ago my wife, as a Girl Guide Leader wanting to organise some Guide Camps, would speak to one of the local market gardeners, to ask his opinion about the forthcoming weather. After many years working the ground and studying the flora and fauna, he was quite an expert at forecasting the weather, even many weeks ahead.

In St. Matthew’s Gospel we read of the time when the religious leaders asked Jesus Christ for a sign from heaven.

He replied, “When evening comes you say, ‘It will be fair weather for the sky is red’, and in the morning, ‘Today it will be stormy, for the sky is red and overcast.’ You know how to interpret the appearance of the sky, but you cannot interpret the signs of the times.”

We live in an age that is scary and worrying with so many unsavoury things and voices happening around us.

Whose voice can we believe today?

Be encouraged by the words of Jesus, “Peace I leave with you, my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.”
