Something to Think About

Evesham Editorial 14th Jan, 2018   0

THE FA CUP is probably the most exciting football cup competition in the world because it so often puts the ‘minnows’ against the ‘giants’ with their much more costly teams.

Last weekend saw the entrance of the ‘larger’ clubs into this season’s competition when some fell to a defeat or some survived a draw, and one Premier League manager was sacked.

As I watch some football games on the television, I often think, “If that team’s forward line is worth that many millions, why are they not scoring lots of goals”. Maybe; but perhaps it is just me being cynical.

The price tag on so many of these so-called ‘superstars’ is getting ridiculous and beyond reason.

We live in a world where it is considered that ‘bigger is always better’, but is it really?

The phrase at the beginning of this article comes from the Old Testament of the Bible where it depicts the story of King Saul’s son, Jonathan, lying dead on the battlefield.

In the Four Gospels we read of Jesus Christ constantly being on the side of the ‘underdog’ and standing up for them in their various life struggles.

Jesus knows life is not always easy because from his early teens until the age of thirty he was a workingman, a carpenter, earning a living.

Whatever our situation, whether wealthy or not, he knows all about it and longs to be part of our lives for our good.
