Something to Think About

Evesham Editorial 17th Dec, 2017   0

WAS that bizarrely coloured pair of socks you received last Christmas the ones you sent to a cousin two years ago?

Online marketplace ebay estimates that Britons received 115 million unwanted Christmas presents last year – that’s two for every adult in the UK.

It has been said that we should focus on the kindness and good intentions rather than the present itself and we should remind ourselves it is the thought that counts.

By doing that we are told that it will overcome any disappointment and prevent that becoming obvious to the person who gave it to us.

Has the joy of giving disappeared because we feel under too much pressure to buy the right gift for family and friends?

Christmas is the time to remember the greatest gift that has ever been given, Jesus Christ the Son of God, who was born as a baby and grew to be the one who thirty-three years later gave his life that we might live.

The Bible tells us, “The gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord”. In another place it says, “Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change”.

This week as we rush around getting all the last minute things for Christmas, let us stop and take a moment to consider ‘the reason for the season’ and experience the love, joy and peace that knowing Jesus Christ as Saviour can bring into out lives.
