Something to Think About

Evesham Editorial 26th Nov, 2017   0

ALL OVER the world, Friday was known as ‘Black Friday’ when people can snap up bargains in shops and on-line.

It began in America because it is the day following Thanksgiving Day and also being a holiday meant that people had free time to shop.

Why is it called ‘Black Friday’? Because this is often the day that shops ‘move into the black from the red’ in their accounts which means they can reduce prices to the shoppers.

One major UK retailer no longer takes part in the ‘Black Friday’ event because some years ago fights broke out in their stores and people were trampled under foot as they became so excited with the bargains.

Some retailers take advantage and the ‘Black Friday’ can extend for up to five days.

As a child and teenager I could never understand why ‘Good Friday’ was called ‘Good’ when it was the day on which the Lord Jesus Christ suffered an horrific and cruel death on the cross.

When I became a Christian, in my early twenties, I then realised the full importance of the ‘Good ‘ bit, because on that day Jesus took our guilt and sin and opened the gates of heaven for us to be able to enter into the presence of his Father, God.

Pick up a bargain or two this weekend but remember the greatest gift to have is God’s love that comes to us through Jesus Christ His Son.
