Something to Think About

Evesham Editorial 12th Nov, 2017   0

EVERY week it seems some celebrity, politician or other well-known person is accused of some misdemeanour from the past, even after many decades.

When they are named, various other people suddenly remember they too were affected by an involvement with that particular person.

Memory is a precious thing but as well as good things it can also remind of us of the times which were not so good, times we would like to forget.

This coming Sunday is Remembrance Day when millions will be gathering to remember the horrors of two world wars and the conflicts since, when thousands of lives were lost.

We live in a world still ravaged by wars in many places, where more often than not it is the innocent who are suffering as their towns and villages are devastated by the bombardment of shells and rockets.

On Sunday, whether we are in church, at a Cenotaph, War Memorial or watching the television, let the Service of Remembrance cause us to lift up a prayer to God for peace in the world.

Talking about the Lord Jesus Christ, the Bible says, “Now may the Lord of peace himself give you peace at all times and in every way”.

If we were all to allow that to happen in our own lives, then conflict and aggression would cease and we would experience the Peace of God in our own hearts and in the world around us.
