Something to Think About

Evesham Editorial 29th Oct, 2017   0

IN MY DAILY newspaper there are a number of word puzzles but two of them always grab my attention and I endeavour to fathom them out.

One of them has a numerical amount for good; very good or excellent and I can always reach the ‘good’ one and sometimes the ‘very good’.

The other, which has time limits for excellent, good or average, I can sometimes do very quickly or at other times not at all.

I consider myself to have quite a good vocabulary but when I look at the answers the next day, I sometimes have to wonder where on earth they got some of the words from.

We live in a world where new words are appearing almost every week and it can be difficult to keep up with the trend.

The writers of the Bible New Testament came across a Greek word that was very rarely used but it suited the Gospel message perfectly.

That word was ‘Agape’, meaning the highest form of love, so they used this word to depict God’s love for us.

This Greco-Christian word came to be used for, ‘the love of God for man and of man for God’.

It was very rarely found in Greek literature and today has therefore come to symbolize the fantastic love that God has for us and that we should have for Him.

What a different place this world would be if we all exhibited more of the ‘Agape’ style of love.
