Something to Think About

Evesham Editorial 22nd Oct, 2017   0

I RECENTLY saw a photograph which depicted the President of Turkmenistan holding a puppy by the scruff of the neck and handing it to Russia’s President Putin as a birthday present, who accepted it with open and welcoming hands.

Presents can come in all shapes, sizes and values and can be so exciting to open, but also can have the opposite effect especially if the socks or gloves have been passed around for a number of Christmas’s.

I remember the times of frustration at Christmas and birthdays when we struggled with awkward and pointed presents for our children or grandchildren, knowing within seconds all the careful wrapping would be ripped off.

It is often said, “that it is more blessed to give than to receive”.

There are so many times in the Bible when the words, give, gives or given are used and it is mostly referring to God giving us His Love through His Son, Jesus Christ.

When we take Communion in Church, we always hear the words that the bread and wine symbolise the body and blood of Jesus, which was given so that people like us can experience the love that comes from knowing Jesus as Saviour and Lord.

A present given has to be received and we need to accept that gift of knowing God’s love to each of us today.
