Something to Think About

Evesham Editorial 8th Oct, 2017   0

THE ICONIC clock at Carnforth Station has been at a standstill for more than 10 months.

Twice a week for 15 years one man had faithfully wound the clock, which featured in the David Lean classic 1945 black-and-white film ‘Brief Encounter’.

Unfortunately a private conversation of the gentleman concerned was overheard by a visitor to the station who considered the remarks to be ‘not politically correct’ and he was therefore banned from the station and unable to carry out his clock winding duties.

We live in a modern world where even more than ever we need to be careful of what we say or what we put out on social media in case it comes back to ‘haunt’ us.

How many times have we seen where celebrities, politicians, sports personalities and others in the spotlight have had to retract on some remark or post, which they had previously made?

In the New Testament of the Bible, St James talks about the ‘tongue’ being only a small part of the body but yet on the one hand it can encourage and bless but on the other can destroy and kill.

James likens the tongue to the small rudder that can steer even the largest of ships.

Are our daily conversations helpful or not to those whom we come into contact each day?

Jesus Christ said that he is the way, the truth and the life and no one comes to God except through him.

The words of the Lord Jesus are really worth listening to and obeying because they are truly life for us all.
