Something to Think About

Evesham Editorial 24th Sep, 2017   0

“RECORD-breaking veterans who are still flying high…” ran the headline in one of the national newspapers on Monday.

Because of modern technology the life span of our feathered friends is being monitored by the British Trust for Ornithology.

A Puffin has been clocked at 37 years and seven days old, which is amazing when you consider that this curious little bird spends most of its life at sea.

A Manx Shearwater, who when it was last seen in 2008 had lived for 50 years, 11 months and 21 days, is the current British Isles record-holder.

So it is not only us humans who are living longer but also it would seem that our flying friends are doing the same.

Rainbows, Brownies and Guides in Manchester have launched a new badge, in conjunction with Manchester Health and Care Commissioning, to help tackle loneliness in old people, by visiting the elderly and sheltered housing.

By doing this the girls can be learning skills from the older people which will help them in their future lives. It is hoped that Guides nationwide will adopt the scheme.

In the Bible we read of many older people who did great and marvellous things for the benefit of their local community.

Whatever our age, let us stop and take on board the wealth of knowledge and skills which we can learn from our older generations.

Jesus Christ came to earth to show God’s love to each one of us, whatever our age, so let us accept that love for ourselves.
