Something to Think About

Evesham Editorial 17th Sep, 2017   0

OVER the past few weeks there has been much activity in the fields, market gardens and orchards of the Vale as this years harvest has been brought in.

My father-in-law retired from farming in the early 1970s and he died in 1990 and if he were to return to farming today he would be absolutely bewildered by the modern technology that there is in the modern business.

Of course it is there to be able to bring a higher yield with less manpower and a greater efficiency, but the equipment has progressed over these past few years.

We live in a world that clamours for a better this and a more cost effective that, but are we happier today than yesterday when things were harder to achieve?

The new ways enable us to do more and enjoy the possibility of a better life but has it all made us any happier?

In the bible, Jesus Christ told the story of the farmer who had a bumper harvest and built bigger barns to hold the crop and he expected to sit back, enjoy himself and forget about other people and live life to the full.

Sadly he only lived one more day and his wealth was given to others.

Jesus then went on to tell his listeners to store up treasures in heaven by taking on board his offer of salvation through the love of God and have an assurance of a place in heaven with him and God.
