Something to Think About

Evesham Editorial 20th Aug, 2017   0

LAST week the World Athletic Championships were held in London and the cameras caught every moment and we were treated to re-run after re-run just to make sure that we hadn’t missed anything.

Yet one of the greatest athletic achievements of all time could quite easily have been missed but for Norman Potter who has just died aged 85.

When Sir Roger Bannister ran that incredible sub four-minute mile in 1954, the young Norman was just starting out on what was to be a very successful Fleet Street career.

Working for an agency he was on a very low wage but he was the only person there who had a camera to record the tremendous event.

We could easily have missed it!

I am sure that there are so many times in our lives when we wished that we could have recorded an event in our lives for posterity.

Many times, in the Gospels in the Bible, we read of Jesus Christ passing by an individual or group and seemingly to walk by but the shouts of those people caused him to stop and share his great love with them. To some it was probably the one and only chance they had to meet him.

They could easily have missed it!

Jesus longs to share God’s love with each of us today. We just simply need to raise a prayer to him and ask him to help us so that we don’t miss out.
