Something to Think About

Evesham Editorial 13th Nov, 2023   0

THE SOUND of marching feet. Left/right, left/right and then the words of command, “Parade Halt”, followed by “Parade Dismiss”.

These are the memories of the last Parade in which I took part.

It was the annual ‘Air Officer Commanding’ Camp Inspection and Parade at RAF Valley, in Anglesey.

Shortly afterwards I would leave the Royal Air Force after 9 years’ service in the Accounts Department.

Because I was tall, I was also called upon on numerous occasions to be part of the Guard of Honour at the various camps at which I served.

Whilst I did not face any ‘theatres of war’, I was in Germany at the time of the Cuban Crisis, which was quite nerve racking because of the uncertainty of Russia’s intent with it’s stand-off with the U.S.A.

This week we celebrate “Remembrance Day’ and over the past few years, my wife and I have had the privilege to read out the names of the men from our Village who died in the two World Wars and to realise the great sacrifice which they made for the freedom of our country.

They gave their ‘today for our tomorrow’.

As we remember their sacrifice let us also bring to mind the fact that Jesus Christ, the Son of God, gave His life and died that we might have salvation and eternal life with Him.
