STANDING on the platform of Toddington station recently the thought of “From little acorns, mighty oak trees grow”, came to mind as I thought back over the forty plus years since my first visit to that fledgling steam railway.
In those days the track bed ran for a length just beyond the station limits.
A group of like-minded people had come together to form the Gloucestershire Warwickshire Steam Railway with a vision of rebuilding the railway from Cheltenham to Stratford upon Avon.
Today that railway runs from Cheltenham Racecourse in Gloucestershire to Broadway in Worcestershire and is one of the longest preserved heritage railways in the country.
All of this has been achieved by a mostly volunteer workforce keeping afresh that original vision, which was evident in the fact that the two trains running on the day of my visit were packed with happy travellers.
Did those early disciples of Jesus Christ ever envisage the impact that the Good News of the Gospel which Jesus taught would have on the whole earth?
The world of today has many problems and difficulties created by mankind, but at the basis of all life is the truth of that powerful message of Salvation and Love which Jesus taught and showed by His life and death.
