Something to Think About

“Sheep day return ticket? Join the qu-ewe”.

So ran the heading of an article in a national newspaper last week.

Underneath was a photograph of a Double Decker bus at a stop with two people and a dog getting on, along with approximately thirty sheep all lined up on the roadside.

Were the sheep hoping to get a £2 ticket into Gloucester?

The ancient tradition of Pannage allows flocks to be released to graze in the open.

A friend once told me of the time he was on a bus touring the Holy Land which was stopped because two shepherds were talking and their sheep were blocking the road.

When the conversation was finished and the two men moved away, to the amazement of the coach passengers, each flock followed its own shepherd because each sheep knew its master’s voice.

Sheep are often referred to as being silly, stupid animals but yet that story proved the opposite, for each shepherd’s sheep knew who to follow.

The Bible says so much about Shepherds and their sheep and Jesus Christ often refers to Himself as being the Good Shepherd.

The famous Psalm 23 starts by stating that “The Lord is my Shepherd” and goes on to extol the virtues of being one of the ‘sheep’ of this Good Shepherd.

We live in a world that needs to realise that this Good Shepherd is Jesus Christ Himself, and He longs to be our Saviour and lead us on through our lives
