Something to Think About

Evesham Editorial 29th Jan, 2023   0

RECENTLY I attended the funeral of a dear friend and I was asked to say a word of tribute in the service.

I had known him for a number of years and had seen him when he was widowed for the first time.

At that time, he was very down and depressed because he had no family and his only brother had died without being married, so there was no one to comfort or care for him.

Then he met a widowed lady whom he had known many years previously and they fell in love and married.

She had a family of children and grandchildren so this was something that my friend had never experienced.

In my tribute I thanked the family that they had accepted my friend not just as their mother’s new husband, or even as a stepfather, but he became ‘dad’ to them over the ensuing years.

Very often in the gospels we read that Jesus Christ spoke of the fact that when we accept Him as our Saviour, we become part of His family with God as our Father.

This is the wonderful promise that we see in the Christian message, that we can experience the reality of being part of God’s family here on earth and that one day we will be part of that great family in heaven.
