THE SETTLE to Carlisle railway line has the highest and loneliest signal box in the country and the cottage next to it is up for sale.
It is said that the purchaser will need a 4×4 vehicle to access the property and be prepared to have a lonely existence.
Looking at some steam railway films on Utube the other day there was a train pounding up the track to Blea Moor Signal Box where the cottage is situated and I could imagine the isolated existence there.
The buyer would need to want that lonely way of life as loneliness is not always a sort after way of living because it can lead to despair and pain.
Reading in the bible about Jesus Christ’s last journey to Jerusalem, it mentions that He is surrounded by great crowds, but really it was a very lonely way of life for Him because the ultimate destination meant death.
Even His friends, the Disciples, did not fully understand. They thought that they were on an enjoyable trip to Jerusalem for the annual Passover Feast.
Only Jesus knew the outcome but He carried on so that it could be completed and we could know of the great Salvation that His death on the cross would bring.
Because of that we can enjoy that new life and be ‘No longer alone’.
