Something to Think About

Evesham Editorial 15th Jan, 2023   0

I AM an only child which means no siblings to row or fight with.

In my early years I would envy those of my peers who had brothers and sisters but, in many ways, I am glad that it is only me that I have to deal with because now I know who I am dealing with.

Sadly, at the moment, we are seeing in the media the family rivalry which can arise and it is causing distress to many people, especially to those who are deeply involved.

No doubt each of us can see this happening in the families around us, with so much unrest.

After the miraculous birth of the Lord Jesus Christ, Mary and Joseph had other children who could not understand who He was and why He had been born into their family.

Mary and Joseph had been chosen by God to be the parents of this special child and it did bring its difficulties.

We read on one occasion in the Gospels where His brothers and sisters came to take Him home because they feared that He was ‘out of his mind’.

Jesus calmly told them that He was doing His Heavenly Father’s work of sharing the Good News of the Gospel and therefore not to be working in Joseph’s carpenters workshop.

It is a good thing that Jesus’s siblings did not have their way, otherwise we would not have the Salvation that is available to each of us today.
