AS A CHILD and also with my own children and grandchildren when we were on a journey the inevitable question was, “Are we there yet?”
Leading up to the first Christmas there were a number of journeys which were made, that are chronicled in the Gospels.
The Angel Gabriel journeyed from Heaven to Nazareth to tell Mary that she was to have a baby who would be called Jesus, the Son of God.
Mary, who was heavily pregnant, and Joseph had to make an arduous journey from Nazareth to Bethlehem to take part in a census of the whole land.
The Angels made a journey to the hillside outside of Bethlehem to tell the good news of Jesus’ birth to the lowly Shepherds, who then made the journey down through the dark streets of Bethlehem to see the wondrous scene that they had been told about.
The Wise Men from the east made the long, treacherous journey because they had seen the Star and had followed it because they believed that it would lead them to someone very special. Eventually they arrived at the place in Bethlehem where the young child was and they presented Him with their precious gifts fit for a King.
At this modern-day Christmas time, let us make a journey to meet, not a Baby Jesus, but the One who grew up to be and is today the Saviour of the World.
