We are told that often first impressions can be misleading.
Just outside our patio door is a small bed of flowers and in amongst these are some Heleniums; the sort which have drooping petals. I am not a gardener, so I thought they looked as if their flowering time was over. At first neither my wife nor I liked these ‘upside down’ flowers but over the weeks of them blooming we have grown to like them very much.
A number of years ago a friend introduced my wife and I to her new boyfriend and at the first impression we both thought that they seemed unsuited. They eventually married and I had the honour of being the best man at their wedding.
Over the years he has become a really great and trusted friend and they now have a wonderful family.
At times many of us can feel that we are not good enough or clever enough and we can consider ourselves inferior to those around us.
In the Gospels we read of many people who felt just like that until Jesus Christ came into their lives and He made all the difference.
Then they began to feel wanted and useful to the society around them.
Jesus is here for each one of us today so that we can bring our concerns to Him in prayer.
