LOOKING out of the window, my wife exclaimed, “What on earth is that out there?”
I followed her gaze and said jokingly, “I think it is what we used to know as rain”.
Of course, we have had so much dry weather, that the sight of rain was something we had not seen for quite a few weeks.
The subject of the English weather is something which can start or finish many conversations in our daily lives.
In fact, what would we talk about other than the weather without being too controversial?
There are many old English sayings relating to the weather as we try to work out the next day’s forecast by looking at the sky.
In the Bible we read where Jesus Christ challenged the pompous religious leaders by saying that they could judge the forth coming weather by looking at the sky, but they could not decipher the needs of the people in their care.
In fact, they were so bound up in their religious beliefs that they could not understand the great truths that Jesus was bringing of the love and salvation from God.
Apart from the weather, there are so many controversial things happening in our world today that we can take our minds off the things which matter and we fail to see the greatness of God.
