Something to Think About

“WHO is the richest of them all?”

The 29th edition of the annual Sunday Times Rich List has been published, featuring a record 130 women and 134 billionaires.

As one looks at the amounts that these people own, it sounds just so incredible.

Even with the low rates, I can imagine that they can each earn more interest in a day than many people earn in a year.

It is said that the world’s eight richest men have £350billion, which is equivalent to the wealth of 3.6 billion people or approximately one half of the population of the world.

As history has shown and even amongst today’s rich there are many who have been real philanthropists and their money has been used to help those in need.

I am not against people having wealth but sadly there are too many who, like Scrooge in Dickens’ book ‘A Christmas Carol’, keep their wealth to themselves and let their employees live on low wages.

The Apostle Peter sums it all up as he writes in one of his letters in the New Testament. “God wants you to be, not greedy for money, but eager to serve, not lording it over those entrusted to you, but being examples to them.”

Jesus Christ himself, said, “Store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moth and rust do not destroy and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also”.

Today, is our treasure in the right place?
