OVER my lifetime I have been encouraged and helped by so many people who have gone out of their way to do so.
Sadly, in today’s world there are so many petulant people who instead of helping others are just there for their own ends.
But there are those who are still conscious of the feelings of other people.
Last week Manchester United lost the Europa League final and when presented with their losers medals, most of the players immediately took them off from around their necks, which looked like a real snub.
Would they have been allowed to do that in Sir Alec Ferguson’s day?
One United player stood out amongst his teammates, and he stayed on the field while the winners were presented with the cup and their medals, and he applauded them.
Edison Cavani, who is on a twelve-month contract with the club was that player, showing what a true sportsman he is.
When he was on earth, Jesus Christ was the true sportsman for he was constantly standing up for the underdog against the bully boys and he brought help to all who called on his name.
Jesus came to show us the love of his Father, God, who wants all people to realise that there is someone on our side, whatever the situation that we find ourselves in.
Jesus died on the cross so that we could know his salvation and live it out to share with other people.
