A GIFT that saved a young man’s life in the First World War.
The heading on an inside page of a national daily last week read, “Hole-y Bible that saved a soldier’s life”, with a picture of the pocket size book with a bullet still embedded in it.
The young man had been given the Bible by his Aunt and he must have had it in the breast pocket of his uniform when a German bullet hit him and it stopped within fifty pages of the end of the book.
The Bible has been passed down through five generations of the soldier’s family and it is living proof that miracles do happen and often in very remarkable ways.
Of course the Bible is full of miracles, especially in the Four Gospels where we read of Jesus Christ’s earthly ministry in which he brought life, hope and healing to thousands of people.
The Bible has often been referred to “As the Highway Code for Life” and of course we would not venture out driving our cars without a thorough knowledge of the rules of the road.
Likewise it is always good to read the Bible to help us with our daily lives.
There are many earthly rules and regulations that govern our everyday living but if we accept and believe the truths of the Bible then we will live out our lives as we were born to do.
