SURPLUS soil from the A4440 Southern Link Road scheme is set to be transferred to support Environment Agency flood alleviation works within Worcestershire.
Several thousand cubic metres of material will begin to be moved and will be used to help the construction of the Environment Agency flood defence scheme in Severn Stoke near Upton upon Severn.
The material will be moved by lorries and the process will take up to three weeks.
Coun Marc Bayliss, cabinet member for Economy, Infrastructure and Skills said: “I am delighted that we are able to donate soil from the Southern Link Road construction site to support the Environment Agency flood defence scheme at Severn Stoke.
“This joined-up approach between Worcestershire County Council and the Environment Agency (EA) has made the EA scheme financially viable and has the added advantage of avoiding the transportation of surplus soil over long distances.
To allow the removal of soil to take place, there will be lane closures in place on the slip road towards Malvern, off Powick Roundabout on weekdays, then removed at weekends.
This is to allow the lorries to manoeuvre safely. Once the soil has been removed the storage area will need to be reinstated and the temporary site entrance removed.
