Slide show back in focus to raise Plum Festival cash

Rob George 8th Aug, 2018   0

A MUCH-LOVED step back in time through Pershore’s past is being revived for one night only to raise cash for the town’s iconic Plum Festival.

Pershore Past and Present was originally a colour slide show put together by Ernest, Ralph, Kenny and Ian Fuller in the early 1960’s as a fund-raiser for the Avon Valley Swimming Pool Association which was raising money to build a pool in the town after the tragic death of a local boy in the River Avon.

The slide show was shown in Pershore and the surrounding villages for many years  and proved a major fund-raiser for this much needed town facility.

Sadly Ernest, Ralph and Kenny are no longer with us but before his death, Ernest with the help of his eldest son Kevin, converted the show into digital format.

The show has not been seen by the general public for over 30 years until now. Obviously it won’t include anything current, but it will show how things in Pershore and surrounding villages changed over the years.

The event is now being staged as a fund raiser for the Pershore Plum Festival and special guest for the evening will be Festival Ambassador, Henry Sandon MBE – who is celebrating his 90th birthday.

To mark this “one night only” special occasion, Matt Pollard, Executive Head Chef at Worcester Racecourse has baked a special plum cake for Henry, and everyone attending will be given a slice of birthday cake along with other refreshments provided by Abbey Butchers.

The event will take place tomorrow (Thursday) at 7pm at the Baptist Church on Broad Street.

Tickets can be purchased from Blue in Broad Street or Pershore Town Hall and are priced at only £7. Only 100 tickets will be available so please don’t miss out
