Sky diving Donna and team are doing it all in memory of Evesham's Wayne

A GROUP of friends will be taking their fundraising to 13,000ft on Saturday (May 14) to do a tandem skydive in memory of their Evesham friend, Wayne Meddings, who died from lung cancer in November 2021.

And they’ll be leping into the skies in aid of the Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation.

Organiser Donna Scarrott, from Redditch said: “Wayne was a lovable rogue who was always up for a laugh.

Donna and the team will be raising a glass to Wayne Meddings.“He had a kind heart and would do anything for anyone.

“The Ambassador Club in Evesham, owned by Timothy Williams, has always done a lot of fundraising for a variety of charities.

“So, when we returned from our annual trip to Blackpool in August last year, Wayne, Emily Harriet and I started discussing doing a skydive for charity. We were all up for it and had planned to do it at some point in 2022.

“However, a few short months later, Wayne found himself with a diagnosis of lung cancer and sadly passed away in November.

“This is the reason why we have chosen the Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation as our charity – to support their awareness raising to help people get an earlier diagnosis.”

Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation is the only UK charity dedicated entirely to supporting those affected by all forms of lung cancer.

“We’ll be taking to the skies at Hinton Skydiving Centre in Brackley,” said Donna.

“The centre has agreed to let us release some of Wayne’s ashes, at his mum and sister’s request.

“This way Wayne will still be a big part of day, and still get to be with us for the skydive, just as we planned.”

Donna has previously completed a skydive in 2018, but it will be a first for the rest of the team – Emily, Timothy and Gavin O’Connor.

“Wayne meant so much to all of us and we are doing this for him!” said Donna. “When it’s all over, we will be able to raise a glass in his name – this is for you Meds!”
