Sitty pretty for big refurb

PERSHORE’s High Street public toilets will undergo a major refurbishment thanks to a £38,000 investment from Wychavon District Council.

The toilets consistently win Loo of the Year awards for their facilities and cleanliness but haven’t been fully refurbished since 1996.

Funding has been now made available to give them a full overhaul which will also see environmentally friendly features designed to save water and money in running costs.

Among the new features will be specially designed toilets that will save water, new floors and tiles. Wychavon will also be removing unpopular combined hand washing and drying facilities and replacing them with separate sinks with a tap and hand dryer over the sink.

The new loos will use a sixth of the water per flush compared with the old ones and the dryers a third less energy.

Coun Emma Stokes, portfolio holder for environment and street scene said: “We’re proud to be investing in our public toilets at a time when other councils are choosing to close theirs.”

There will also be new baby changing facilities in the ladies, gent and disabled toilets and the inclusion of toddler seats.

Temporary toilets will be on offer on site until work is completed at the end of March.
