AN ALZHEIMER’S charity has been given a cracker of a Christmas present, a cheque for £1,500 from a concert at Pershore Abbey.

The money for Alzheimer’s Research UK (ARUK) came from the proceeds of a festive A Cappella Christmas Cracker show organised by the Pershore-based Vale Harmony Barbershop Chorus.

They teamed up with the 40-strong UK Barbershop Champions, the Great Western Chorus from Bristol, to put on the concert in front of a full house at the Abbey.

Chris Franey, the chairman of Vale Harmony, said: “We are pleased to be supporting ARUK as our chosen charity this year.

“We were delighted by the generosity and support from the public at this year’s concert and it was a privilege to be singing with the No. 1 UK Barbershop Champions from Bristol, the Great Western Chorus.

Zoe Baggott, regional fund-raising officer at Alzheimer’s Research UK, said: “We were delighted Vale Harmony chose this special event to raise vital funds for dementia research. I was so impressed by the performances of both Vale Harmony and Great Western and really enjoyed the varied and entertaining programme that had been put together.

“We are extremely grateful to everyone who helped with the planning and organising, and to all who came along on the night. The money raised will be invaluable in helping us try to bring about a life-changing dementia treatment by 2025.
