Shoppers on the trail of some festive fun

Evesham Editorial 23rd Dec, 2020   0

VALE residents can help save the ‘Christmas Spirit’ by taking part in a new interactive festive trail.

Wychavon District Council has joined forces with QR code trail experts High Street Safari to create an interactive story-trail that tells the tale of Albert Claus – Santa’s less famous brother.

Albert’s job is to spread joy bubbles on Christmas Day, but he has gone missing. Residents can help track him down by finding the ten colourful characters placed in shop windows around Evesham, Droitwich and Pershore.

When someone comes across one of the characters, they simply scan the QR code using their smartphone and an animation will burst to life.

Each one will reveal a bit more of the story and clues to help solve the mystery. At the end of the story people who take part will be receive a heart-warming Christmas e-book.

Each town centre has the same trail and it should take about 45 minutes to complete. It is free to take part and people should follow the latest government social distancing restrictions.

The trail will be available until the end of January.

Coun Martin King, executive board member for Town Centres and Council Efficiency, said: “This is a free and fun Christmas activity that people can do in a safe way.

“Hopefully, it will also raise awareness of what our town centres have to offer and encourage people to support our local traders this festive season.”

Martin Blackwell, former CEO of the Association of Town and City Management and the Charity Retail Association, who is co-ordinating the project nationally, added: “We’ve run several of these “safaris on the high street” and have just been blown away at the response.

“If something fun like this can help make families and kids feel good about going back out onto the high street in a safe way then we’ve done our job.”
