CARING charity chiefs at Teams4u have swooped into action to come to the aid of refugees fleeing the war in Ukraine.

The Davies Road team are normally known for the charity’s Christmas Shoebox Appeal but are switching their efforts given the current crisis.

After conversations with overseas partners in Romania, Moldova and Ukraine, the team have drawn up a list of aid that is needed at this time.

It also fully complies with customs requirements needed to get to its destination in northern Romania.

There, its partners will unload and distribute the aid to not only refugees on the border but further inside Ukraine.

The following items can be donated

Blankets – Good Condition.

Torches & Batteries

Nappies.

Sanitary Products.

Crayons & Colouring Books.

First Aids Kits.

Hair Brushes – NEW.

Toothbrushes & Toothpaste.

Toiletries.

Bandages – NEW.

Non Prescription Pain Killers.

Non-perishable food i.e. Pasta, Rice, Sugar, Pulses, Packet Soup

No tinned food or formula milk.

Socks and Underwear all ages – NEW No other clothing.

There is no need to pack items into shoeboxes as aid has to be shipped in bulk cartons to meet customs requirements.

It comes as Wychavon residents are being urged to back a national appeal to help the hundreds of thousands of Ukrainians fleeing war in their country.

The UK’s Disasters Emergency Committee is co-ordinating the efforts of 15 agencies to help people who have fled Ukraine or been displaced to other parts of the country, following the invasion by Russia.

All public donations will be doubled by the UK government, up to a total of £20million.

Coun Bradley Thomas, leader of Wychavon District Council, said: “It’s heartening to see how our communities have swung into action to begin raising money and donations of items to support those affected by the conflict.

Several community groups and businesses are holding fund-raising events and appeals for donations of items to send to refugees.

Volunteers plan to open the warehouse for donations initially on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays from 10am to 2pm and Wednesday from 7pm to 9pm until the end of April.
