Sexual violence advocacy service support continues

Ross Crawford 23rd Mar, 2021

VITAL support for victims of sexual violence will continue in Worcestershire after West Mercia Police recommissioned its Sexual Violence Advocacy Service.

The service provides invaluable support to those affected by rape, sexual violence or sexual exploitation.

It will be delivered by the West Mercia Rape and Sexual Abuse Support Centre (WMRSASC) which was also recommissioned earlier this year to deliver a child sexual exploitation service.

The force said tackling sexual violence remains one of its ‘top priorities’.

Police and Crime Commissioner John Campion said his officers always aim to prevent these crimes from ever taking place.

But that when they do, it’s vital the right support is available for victims.

Mr Campion said: “Ensuring the right support is available for victims of sexual violence is so important.

“We have heard in the recent weeks many accounts from people who have experienced sexual violence in one form or another; it is imperative that they have somewhere to turn to as part of their road to recovery.

“I am committed to seeing victims receive the help they deserve.

“A key reason WMRSASC was chosen to deliver this important service is because it already has a vast amount of experience in this area of work.”

Jocelyn Anderson, CEO of WMRSASC, added: “We are committed to providing advocacy services that empower clients to make informed decisions, take back control of their lives and recover from their experience of sexual violence or abuse.

“We provide specialist sexual violence support services, training and education to raise awareness of sexual violence to all sectors of society and will continue to develop and deliver services in partnership with the PCC.”
