Search for Evesham hosts to welcome twinning visitors from America

AN APPEAL for hosts to welcome friends from across the pond to the town this summer has been launched by members of Evesham Twinning Association.

A search for host families to welcome natives of Evesham, New Jersey to the Vale at the end of July is underway to mark three decades of friendship between the two Evesham’s.

The partnership began in the 1988 and has gone from strength to strength with visits between the two Evesham’s taking place on a regular basis.

Residents of the New Jersey township became aware of Evesham due to a wayward tax bill that was sent to the Vale instead of Evesham, NJ in 1986.

It took place two years before the townshop was to celebrate its tricentennial and as a result the council invited the mayor and other residents of the Vale to help celebrate the 300th birthday of the town.

Thus began a lasting friendship between the two towns of the same name that are located an ocean apart.

Local hosts are being sought to welcome 25 of the association’s twinning friends who will be making the journey to the Vale this summer for two weeks.

Organisers have planned a full programme for their visit which includes a four day coach trip to Scotland to visit Loch Lomond and Glasgow.

A day out in London and various other activities are also planned and association chiefs would like to hear from any families in Evesham who could help.
