HARD-WORKING members of Pershore Carnival committee handed over £1,700.65 in donations from this year’s event to their 2018 nominated beneficiary, Pershore Sea Cadets.
In addition to the cash collected during the parade, the committee made further substantial donations from their own funds with £1,000 to Pershore Town Council’s memorial stained glass window appeal and the same amount to Worcestershire Parent & Carers Community while a further £100 was given to Izzie Bird.
Certificates were presented to all procession entrants, carnival royalty and programme design winners.
Sea Cadets commanding officer Lt Theresa Heeks said: “Monies received from the carnival this year will be put to good use, helping to fund the purchasing of paddles, stray desks and possibly a trailer to transport Speeder Canoes to competitions.
“The aim is to get the cadets at the units on the water enjoying themselves and obtaining new skills. The funds will mean the unit can ensure the cadets are ready for taking part in the Paddlesport competition this year within our district.”
Carnival chairman said Colin Shepherd said: “We were thrilled to be able to present Pershore Sea Cadets with their cheque for £1,700.65 and to distribute additional funds to other local groups in our 50th Anniversary year.
“This has been another fantastic year for Pershore Carnival and it wouldn’t be possible without the support and goodwill of the local businesses and generosity of the people of Pershore,” he added.
