A ‘BUFFET’ of top rugby skills coaching, delivered by the very best, was laid on for local women of all ages at Pershore Rugby as part of a special “Ladies Rugby Night”
Thirty came along, with players from Pershore Touch section and Ladies Contact section all enjoying this fully Covid-compliant, organised outdoor sporting event.
It was thanks to top international women’s rugby player and coach, Donna Kennedy and her fellow coaches from Worcester Rugby Club Women: Benny Williams and Mark French; and Warriors Women player, Paige Farries. They led a series of core rugby skills sessions relevant for new and experienced ladies, playing Touch (non-contact), 15-a-side Rugby Union (contact), or both!
Donna is a former international player, is the first woman to gain 100 caps and has an accomplished coaching career.
Richard George, Chair of Pershore Rugby said: “We are delighted that Donna came to Pershore as a guest coach for our Ladies Touch and Contact sections and, with fellow coaches from Worcester Rugby Club Women, she shared some of the wealth of skills and insights she has for rugby. We want to say a big thank you from us all at Pershore Rugby.”
Donna said, “It was great to see the ladies enjoying the coaching sessions and we enjoyed them too. We focussed on a range of fundamental rugby skills including ball handling; lines of running for attack; rugby related fitness; and conditioned games. And we concentrated on doing the basics well, because that benefits every player, no matter what their level of experience and whichever type of rugby they enjoy.”
