STUDENTS at The De Montfort School limbered up as part of a major campaign to encourage girls across the county to take part in sport.

The De Montfort School hosted several events for ‘Worcs Girls Can’ campaign which was organised by teacher Sharleen Watkins.

Many local providers gave up their time to teach girls at TDMS in a range of different activities including bhangra dance, pound, zumba, yoga, clubbercise, boogie bounce, taekwondo, jumprope, VX and KanJam to name a few.

The campaign this year was focused on the perception of sport and physical activity and promoting the mental health benefits that come with being active.

“We are extremely pleased to be a lead school for this campaign as it directly tackles the fear of judgement that can have a negative impact upon women and girls from participating in sport and physical activity,” said Lisa Houghton, school games organiser.

One pupil, with Congenital Muscular Dystrophy, was given the chance to do something that she has always wanted to have a go at. With the help of Boogie Bounce, she was able to jump on a trampoline for the very first time.
