School children get The Valley all switched on

YOUNGSTERS from an Evesham school took centre stage and lit up the night sky after switching-on The Valley’s Christmas lights.

More than 1,000 people joined in the celebrations at the shopping centre last Thursday (November 24) as pupils from the Vale of Evesham School joined in with the countdown and pressed the plunger to switch-on the festive lights.

Local jazz singer Helen Pearson also helped with the festive atmosphere as she sang classic Christmas hits. And as the crowd sang ‘Santa Claus is coming to Town’ Father Christmas arrived on his sleigh to find out whether the youngsters had been naughty or nice.

The evening also marked the launch of The Valley’s winter skating rink.

Andrew Robinson, Head of Care at the Vale of Evesham School, said: “Being part of the community is an important part of what we do at the school, and the boarders loved being able to turn the lights on.

“Thank you to everybody at The Valley who made us feel welcome and for letting us be part of the evening.”

The Valley’s Marketing Manager, Phil Maclean, said: “We are so proud of the Vale of Evesham School; it was an obvious choice to invite them to perform the light switch-on, as they are all genuine stars.

“It was a magical evening, and we were delighted with the turnout. We had lots of positive feedback on the night from families enjoying the relaxed nature of the event.

“We have lots more happening over the festive period and judged on last night; we are set for lots more fun,” he added.
