Round-the-clock relay raises £52k for Cancer Research

HUNDREDS of fund-raisers put their best foot forward by taking part in a 24-hour relay event to raise thousands of pounds for Cancer Research UK.

Now in its 10th year, the Evesham Relay for Life took place last weekend and 300 fund-raisers took part and raised £52,000.

The fundraising event sees teams of eight to 15 people take to the track at the De Montfort School and each team has to take turns to walk around the track for the duration of the 24 hour relay.

The relay is only stopped once during the 24 hours when fund-raisers gather to life candles of hope to pay tribute to those whose lives have been affected by cancer.

Paul Baylis, Event Chair, said: “It went really well.

“It was our 10th year and we are only £42,000 away from reaching £750,000 over the 10 years.

“I’m confident we’ll hit that target this year.

“A big, big thank you to the teams who took part; it has been a massive achievement.”

The fund-raising committee has already begun to look towards next year’s event and is need of more volunteers to join to help organise the relay.
