Roadworks causing traffic 'chaos'

TEMPORARY traffic lights on a busy Evesham road are causing ‘chaos’ for hundreds of drivers in the rush hour period.

BT is currently installing telephone lines on the Davies Road junction with Cheltenham Road, next to the former site of the town’s Ambulance station.

Work began on Wednesday (January 6) and is set to end today(January 8). Delays are likely according to the Worcestershire Highways website, and this appears to definitely be the case.

As a result of the roadworks, queues have been back logged all the way from the Davies Road junction, through the town centre, and up to Greenhill.

Many drivers took to Facebook to express their frustration at the delays. It took one driver over an hour to drive from one side of the town to another to get to Morrisons.

It also took Emma Nishigaki 50 minutes to travel from the Worcester Road junction onto the High Street.

“I was on Worcester Road waiting to get onto the High Street,” Mrs Nishigaki said.

“In the end I did a u turn and went on black bridges, went all around the back streets and out of Avon Street to get to the Post Office. It took 50 minutes.”
