PERSHORE High School’s equestrian team has leapt its way through qualifying to land a spot at the National School Championships (NSC).

Members competed at Kings Equestrian on Sunday (June 14) in show jumping, where the top two teams in each class qualified for the NSC at Addington in October.

The school had riders compete in the 80cm, 90cm, 1m and 1.10m classes and were unlucky not to be placed in the 80cm class with Lorna Beard riding a clear round in a quick time to be just outside the placings.

The team of Lorna Beard, Erin Carvill, Jessica Thomas, Hannah Cartwright and Katie Caldicott rode well in the 90cm class to finish fourth out of 12 teams.

In the 1m class however the girls stepped up again and the team of Jessica Thomas, Erin Carvill, Sophie Rushton and Phoebe Lole rode to qualify for the NSC as a team, while Jess Thomas rode a clear round in a very quick time to finish in second place as an individual to also qualify for the championships.

Headteacher Clive Corbett said: “The school is very proud of all the girls that rode for the team and we’re pleased their hard work and dedication to the sport has paid off by representing the school at the national level.”
