Return of Pershore Town Choir see festival get off to rousing start

A ROUSING start to the Flower Festival in the Lenches was on the programme as Pershore Town Choir performed their first post pandemic concert.

Singing in Church Lench church, the choir gave a rousing start to the annual celebration which this year paid tribute on the occasion of Her Majesty the Queen’s 70th Platinum Jubilee.

Conducted by musical director David Barclay, the choir sang old favourite songs like ‘Cherry Ripe’ and ‘Down by the Sally Gardens’ and modern classics like Leonard Cohen’s ‘Hallelujah’ and ‘The Lord is my Shepherd’ made famous by The Vicar of Dibley.

The choir had to disband for 18 months during the pandemic and was unable to get together to rehearse until 12 months ago.

Now back in full voice and based in Pershore Abbey, they are looking forward to contributing again to the musical scene in Pershore and villages around.

Mr Barclay said: “It’s just great that the choir can sing again – it has been a part of Pershore for more than 15 years.

“Recovering from the pandemic has been a long haul but now we’re ready to perform again for the town.”

The choir rehearses in Pershore Abbey on Wednesday evenings and welcomes new members.
