RESULT - Bretforton and Offenham seat turns light blue in Wychavon district by-election

RESIDENTS of Bretforton and Offenham have thrown their support behind Reform UK following a by-election.

This comes after former Conservative Coun Aaron Powell resigned for a new job with the West Midlands Combined Authority (WMCA) as director of digital and data transformation.

He previously told the Observer his reason for leaving is his new role at the WMCA is a politically restricted post which means he is  unable to serve as a councillor or publicly support any political party.

Reform UK Councillor Matthew Winfield won with 357 votes, over 100 more than second place Green Party candidate Marino Cretu with 213 votes.

Labours Amanda Capewell received 33 votes, Independent Joe Davin got 12, Matt Jones for the Lib Dems had 31 and 165 votes went to Conservative Mary Smith.

Typically Wychavon has always been a Conservative stronghold, but following other areas of the county, has backed Reform UK.

Coun Winfield is no stranger to public office, he serviced as the Mayor of Pershore from 2022 until 2023, and was elected onto the town council in 2019 as a Conservative.
