OWNERS of reptiles big and small have been invited to enter a Vale club’s competition in memory of one of its founders.

Evesham and Districts Reptile and Exotics Club will be holding their first fund-raising competition on May 3 with categories including lizards, snakes, bearded dragons, geckos and exotic mammals.

All of the proceeds from the event will be donated to the Gentleshaw Wildlife Centre and organiser Arran Churchill, said: “We want this to be an annual event so we can build a following for it and donate the money to charity.

“We are hoping this will raise awareness of our group and hopefully get some more people involved that want to get hands on and help run the club.

“Sadly at the beginning of the year one of our founding members Tom Evans passed away who had a great deal of passion for animals and this club so we thought as a way of keeping his memory going within the club we would dedicate a trophy for best

in show to him.”

The winners of each category will receive rosettes and will automatically go through to compete for best in show for the Tom Evans Memorial trophy which will be judged and presented by members of Mr Evans’ family.

The event is open to all, with categories being staged throughout the afternoon where animals must be bought in suitable containers, there will also be children’s activities and a pig roast provided by Fladbury butchers.

The competition will cost £1 per entry for adults, 50p for children and will be free for under four’s with it costing an additional £1 per category.

For more information on the event which takes place on Sunday, May 3 from 1pm to 5pm at the Badsey Recreation Club call 07914364502.
