Remaining Worcestershire 65 to 69-year-olds urged to 'go and get the Covid jab'

PEOPLE aged 65 to 69 who have not yet had their first dose of the life-saving Covid-19 vaccine are being encouraged to get the jab.

Over two thirds of people in Worcestershire in that age group have had their vital first dose, after invites were sent out two week ago.

Appointments are available at vaccination centres across the county, including at the Artrix in Bromsgrove and St Peter’s Church in Worcester.

NHS chief executive Sir Simon Stevens said: “The Covid-19 vaccination campaign continues full steam ahead.

“Early signs suggest this is contributing to the welcome fall in coronavirus hospital admissions.”

The chair of NHS Herefordshire and Worcestershire CCG, Dr Ian Tait, said: “NHS staff, volunteers and other partners have done an incredible job so far delivering the largest vaccination drive in our history.

“This at the same time as dealing with high levels of Covid-19 patients across community and hospital settings.

“To the small proportion of people who have been invited but not come forward yet, I would urge you to do so this week.

“Vaccines are the best weapons we have. Local services are going to great lengths to ensure people can get this protection.”

Dr Tait has urged younger groups to remain patient and not contact local GPs asking for the vaccine.

“We will contact you when it’s your time,” he added.

Nearly 300,000 people in Herefordshire and Worcestershire have had their first dose, according to the local CCG.

People invited to have the jab can visit www.nhs.uk/covid-vaccination to book an appointment.

Those unable to book online should call 119 instead.
